Alexey Verkhoven

Artistic director and principal conductor of the Bryansk Governor's Symphony Orchestra.
Has worked as conductor of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Bashkortostan and as principal conductor of the Togliatti Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. Selected by the artistic council of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus for the post of conductor.
Works with well-known musicians, among them Daniil Kramer, Graf Murzha, Luca Minelli, Ivan Bessonov, Nikita Borisoglebsky, Alexander Ramm, Fabiana Visentin, Mikhail Pochekin, Anastasia Kobekina, Hayk Kazazyan, Anastasia Moskvina, Anna Geniushene, Konstantin Emelyanov and Fedor Amosov.
Winner of the Musin International Competition for Symphony Conductors, first-prize winner of the Stravinsky International Competition for Symphony Conductors in St Petersburg and a diploma winner of the Tlendiev International Competition in Astana.
Studied conducting at the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory with Yuri Simonov, People's Artist of the USSR, and with Professor Alexander Titov. Completed a postgraduate residency at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory under Professor Anatoly Levin. His first degree was in cello. Took part in masterclasses with Bruno Weil and Vassily Sinaisky.
In 2009 the players of the National Symphony Orchestra of Bashkortostan elected him conductor after two competitive programmes — the only conductor ever chosen by the musicians themselves and the youngest in the orchestra's history. He has conducted some 25 programmes there and holds a certificate of merit from the Ministry of Culture.
In 2013 he assisted Yuri Simonov in preparing the world premiere of Slonimsky's Symphony No. 29 at the Moscow Philharmonic; in 2014 he made his opera debut with «Eugene Onegin» at the St Petersburg Music Hall Theatre.
From 2013 to 2016 he was a senior lecturer in conducting at the St Petersburg State Institute of Culture. He collaborates with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus, the Tavricheskaya Chapel Orchestra of St Petersburg, the Astana Philharmonic and the Rostov, Far Eastern, Kostroma and Togliatti orchestras, among others.
